FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
DALLAS — The Dallas Texas Exes will celebrate its 100th anniversary with the Deep in the Heart of Dallas Festival on April 12 at The Happiest Hour. The centennial celebration will bring together alumni, families and friends of University of Texas at Austin for a day of entertainment, community and fundraising to support
scholarships for Dallas-area students attending UT.
The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature special appearances by former Longhorn quarterback Vince Young, UT Athletic Director Chris Del Conte and Texas Exes CEO Robert Jones. Additional featured guests include college football media leader Bobby Burton and sports broadcaster Bonnie-Jill Laflin.
“Our centennial year is a special moment for our alumni community,” said Monica Li, president of the DallasTexas Exes. “We’re excited to celebrate with the Metroplex while honoring our alma mater and supporting future Longhorns. Whether guests are enjoying brunch under the Texas sun, shopping the Longhorn market or meeting Vince Young, it will be a memorable day for alumni and their families.”
Young is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in college football history. He led Texas to the 2005 national championship and was selected third overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. His No. 10 jersey is one of only six retired by Texas, and he is a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor.
Burton, founder of the multimedia platform On Texas Football, will conduct live interviews with Texas athletes during the event. A pioneer in the college sports media industry, Burton launched the platform in 2022, building one of the largest digital communities focused on Longhorn athletics.
Laflin, a University of Texas alumna, has built a trailblazing career as a sports broadcaster, television host, author and philanthropist. She made history as the first female NBA scout for the Los Angeles Lakers and later became the first female assistant general manager in the NBA G League. She has worked with ESPN, FOX Sports, NBC Sports and CBS Sports.
The festival will also feature a panel discussion with distinguished Dallas-area UT alumni from fields including medicine, business and journalism. Guests can enjoy live music, door prizes, arts and crafts, a Little Longhorns Corral, a UT marketplace and other family-friendly activities.
A pre-festival session beginning at 10 a.m. will provide high school sophomores and juniors with information about admissions and scholarship opportunities at the University of Texas. Proceeds from the event will support the Dallas Texas Exes Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to Dallas and Collin County students attending the University of Texas at Austin. The organization aims to raise $100,000 by the end of its centennial year to expand scholarship opportunities for future Longhorns.
